Located on the southern shores of Lake Llanquihue, Puerto Varas is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Chile. With a strong German influence, the city was founded by immigrants back in 1850, and right from the start it was famous for its tourism. Today the city offers not only great landscapes for sightseeing, but also fantastic accommodation and restaurant options, a modern casino, nice beaches, and plenty of cultural activities.

The city will host the first Challenge Family event in Chile. Athletes can participate in different events, such as the main middle distance race, an Open Water Swim, or a Family Run, all of them as part of a two-day sports festival. The middle distance race will cover a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run, with the magnificent backdrop of Lake Llanquihue and the city of Puerto Varas. The city is also known as “the city of roses and volcanoes” because most of its parks are decorated with big rose trees, and the landscape is filled with huge mountains such as Mts Osorno, Calbuco, Tronador and Puntiagudo.
